Changed the chain and sprockets at 29500 miles

Changed the original chain & sprockets last night, chain was getting tightspots, and setting the chain slack at the tight spot meant I was getting about 50mm slack at the loose spots! Used one of those cheap ebay breaker/riviter tools (about £12) and everything went well, soft link flared out...

    Sprocket advice, JT or Afam?

Need to change chain and sprockets soon, now done 29000 miles and starting to get a tight spot. I have a choice of DID VX gold chain X ring with Afam sprockets, or same DID chain with JT sprockets. Only £1 difference between them, just wondered if JT or Afam or better? They are selling for £98...

    CCT failure AGAIN!

let me know about the warranty, would be good to get my £200 back, but would be surprised if they did on a bike nearly 5 years old and done 28000 miles

    CCT failure AGAIN!

mine failed again at the 27000 mile mark. Like you original one was replaced under warranty, this one I had to pay for, I think it was £200 inc fitting. I did look into the ape manual tensioner, but they dont appear to be a straight swap over

    drive chain dust?

My 2013 MT09 has now seen 5 british winters, has done over 28000 miles and is still on the original chain & sprockets. I use gear oil applied with a toothbrush every couple of hundred miles, as it does fling of a bit.

    Spark plug change

They are not iridium. I had mine changed by my dealer at 18000 miles. They reckoned that as they are the same plugs as the FZ8, which are recommended to change at 18000 miles, there was no need to change at 12000. Bike now at nearly 28000 miles and no issues. Will swap them over again at 36000 miles

    New MT09 owner checking in

I bought a 2nd hand standard exhaust from Ebay for £60, cut some internals out and had it welded back up by my local fabricator for £20. A fair bit louder, but not as loud as Akra without baffles! Mines an original 2013 model, never been flashed, standard suspension (I weight about 75kg) and I...

    Battery terminals loose.

I found a square red terminal cover, anyone know where that belongs? I'm guessing over the positive terminal on the battery

    Coolant temps uk

Mine runs about 70 when riding along A roads, but stuck in traffic on the daily commute it will get up to over 105 degrees. The fan will come on every day, whatever the weather, after about 8 miles of A roads followed by a couple of miles of stop/start city traffic.

    Yamalube silicone spray

Anyone here use Yamalube silicone spray? or a generic silicone spray? At my last service in November, mt dealer covered my bike in this, so the frame, plastics and matt grey tank looked really good. 3 months later any many washes, it still looks good, and seems to repel the dirt and water (still...

    Crash reset

it could be the tip over sensor (also called tilt sensor). I dont know for sure but I would have thought they would reset after a minute once the bike is back upright

    New MT09

how does it compare to the 1st gen model?
  17. stevecbr

    Rattle from front forks.

I have a fender extender fitted to my MT09, its the one with 3 rivets holding it on. No rattles from mine. Its not the pads rattling when you hit a bump, they move about a bit and will rattle slightly until you apply them

What petrol do you use? injector cleaner additives?

according to fuelly my average is 48mpg. The best was 60mpg on a slow ride out, the worst is, the worst is 41mpg but that was a track day, every tank of the high octane fuel is 42-45mpg, never any more. I have tracked 194 fill ups, and it clearly shows the more expensive fuel does not give more mpg

What petrol do you use? injector cleaner additives?

Ive now done over 25000 miles on my 2013 MT09, I usually use normal unleaded, but occassionally the premium Shell Vmax. I use the fuelly app to track my mpg, and what I have found is I get worse mpg using the premium fuel. I still use the more expensive fuel once a tank every month or so, in...

    Riding through the winter

My MT09 has now seen 4 British winters, done over 25000 miles, and all is fine. Its used when the council is gritting, but I do rinse it down every evening if it gets covered in salt I use ACF50 and FS365, on every piece of exposed metal, and have done since new. The only part that is starting...
