Im not a big Ducati fan, but this caught my eye as the weight and power are very similar to the MT-09. I think the bike looks pretty good, although the addition of pillion pegs is a bit laughable, as there doesn't appear to be anywhere to actually sit!! The Italians seam to be designing shorter and shorter rear ends these days. Looks ok, but those long brackets to hold the number plate are a bit fugly and as soon as you add a tail tidy to it you end up with a wet back/arse with the rooster tail of water coming off the back wheel (as we all know !! )

Its £8,995 which includes traction control, abs and 3 engine modes. Not actually too bad, since the MV Brutale Dragster is £10,999.

ive ridden the engine.....in the hyperstrada. i was quite impressed by the grunt and its very driveable and has similar banzai qualities when you stick it in A mode but the monster? i cant get on with sitting on top a child sized toy where you spend all your time leaning over the front wheel whilst trying to ease the pain in your wrists. the pegs are tucked too far under the tank outline too...

having said that it would be a great bike for a hunch backed midget with bandy legs.......

the hyperstrada has zero peg clearance when cornering and a bucket seat that you cant shift back n forth on.............i did love the goldwing sized bags on it tho.......

but no fuel gague..........and i was drinking 6.5L per 100KM on my ride, im sure thats not a good thing...

and i just noticed they did away with the single sider?........thats a defo no from me then.

The 821 is going for just under £9000. It weighs the same as the MT09. I like the idea of deeper sounding exhaust as standard plus the ABS and traction control. No snatch on the modes and a good LCD screen. As much as i love my MT09, I have to say that I am seriously considering a trade in. I was going to spend a grand on an Akro system anyway so whats another thousand to get the other features mentioned. Just trying to find out about fuel economy and service/parts costs. Just had 64 mpg from my MT09. Best ever. 160 fuel range (inc reserve) and that was by using mainly B mode but changing to standard and A mode only when i need more response..which was rarely! ps. Can anyone really tell the difference between the STD mode and A mode. I have blasted about on the same roads on both and really can't tell the difference...anybody have anything to add on these subjects? Thanks.

I tested the EVO 1100 Monster last year, I don't know what was going to fall apart first, me or the bike, EVERYTHING vibrated like it was on elastic, the indicators, brake & clutch cylindrs, rear number plate, mirrors (don't know why they have them) I could not get it above 4 th gear at 50 mph as it shook so bad, I took it back to the dealers within 20 minutes, He said I knew you would not like it after riding that, pointing at my MV Brutale, your a 4 cylinder man, I said I have a Buell XB9R and know all about large V twin vibrations but Dukes are not for me.
Rob A mode is better than standard on good sweeping roads, it brings the power down the rev range so there is less gear changes, just instant go...

i was using 6.5l per 100km on my test ride. i dont know how to convert that but the saleswoman raised an eyebrow when she wrote it down.....:)

I got the impression that the A mode is more noticable at the top end of the revs for a sporty ride. 2nd and 3rd near the redline whereas on Std the revs would be going well into the Red. Just a nuisance with the snatch in the lower gears interfering with the smoothness needed on sharp bends. I know that you can smooth it out with the clutch, but you shouldn't have too. Just a niggle! Thanks for your reply.
