Howdy all!

Long time no see.

I test rode the S1000RR last week and absolutely fell in love with it. Was about to put down a deposit for the last one they had in the showroom but obviously had to get a quote first.

Called MCE (the ones I'm currently with) and after spending 40 minutes on the phone with them the response was a categoric "no". Wrong postcode, bike too expensive, no NCB, etc, etc, etc. As far as I understood though, they only deal with one broker/company or whatever they call them so I'm hoping that them rejecting me doesn't mean all will.

Which companies would you say I should call for quotes? Preferably someone that won't rip my arms off and ideally ones that will actually insure me :)

Any help and experience would be appreciated!

i think i punched my details into bike insurer and they came up with hastings...

When I lived in London my insurance for the old fz6 09 plate they wanted £700 and I may be 27 but I have 10 years no claims. For the mt 09 they want over 1300. Even if it was garaged it would only reduce the price by 150.

Thankfully last month I moved out of London and the insurance for the mt is less then 400 and not it's not garaged. Simple solution is to move out of London. Very few insurance companies deal with London you will see that when you go on a comparison site. Look at the site below as well then match your postcode.

Wouldnt you be better keeping the MT for a bit longer, and at least build up some no claims? TBH with your claims and attempted thefts you have had this year, plus with having no NCD and not much big bike experience and living in London, I think your insurance is going to be stupidly expensive, with a excess that is so high, it wouldnt make sense buying one. Sorry to put a downer on it, but just my opinion

No, I agree. I wouldn't even be thinking about getting a different bike if not for all the problems I've had with this one. Ticked off with the way Yamaha handled the whole issue so don't want to have anything to do with them, let alone use the same dealers again.

Regarding evifish's suggestion to move out of London - it's actually been at the back of my mind for quite a while and I've been planning on finally buying my own property somewhere where I can afford. I checked the postcode ratings page and mine is F* which is as bad as it gets so I guess I'm even lucky they insured my MT-09. Pretty disappointed that I'm living in such a bad area :/

Thanks for all the advice though! I'll give those few mentioned a go but honestly don't think anything will change.

See if BMW have an agreement with some insurance company.

Got a very good quote for S1000R over here in Denmark with their partners, while no other company wouldnt even consider insuring me. (that was before I went for 09)

Sorry but the outlook in London is bleak for all insurance. I used to live in w9 which is an f* as well so I know your pain. When you say you have problems with yamaha have you been using the hammersmith dealer by any chance.

Mine is F* too so tough luck :D

Regarding the dealer - it was Lamba in Carshalton.
