I dont know , but it look like ''short'' pipe dont have place for catalyst . I will look on it whenn exhaust come to me .

Talking to the MOT tester today and some form of emissions test is coming in soon in the UK
they have not decided yet if it will be a full test in which case you will need a CAT if your
bike had one when new or just a smoke test were if theres not too much visible smoke

If it comes to a choice of once a year swapping my lovely noisy Arrow for the original pipe to pass an mot or just putting up with the horrible muted sound of the original Yamaha item.... Then rest assured I'll be getting my spanners out.
On a bike that I use to weave in and out of traffic (something that I think we can all agree the little Yam excels at), I want to be heard coming.

My first "check" is 2018 and I am ok with swapping back to original pipe then for that day. BUT I think it has something to do with insurance? I don't think they will cover if you ride around without it? OR am I wrong?

Sorry for another noddy question but what is the difference (if any) between a catalyst and a DB killer/silencer? I notice that you buy the exhaust system and the catalyst separately but I'm not sure if the catalyst is the DB killer/silencer? It says that it isn't road legal without the catalyst installed, so I'm guessing that means that the catalyst is the DB killer/silencer? In practice are you going to get hassled by the police for having a loud bike or do they turn a blind eye because it makes the rider safer?

Db killer is in silencer and you can easy remove it to make exhaust more lauder , in practice is not problem for Police . Catalist is between header and silencer and it make more clean air from exhaust , most countrys need it to make pass in technical check every year ( in Poland ) .
Thanks! Why wouldn't you put the catalyst in if it makes the air cleaner? Does it slightly reduce air flow and there the slight power advantage of not having it?

Exactly, more power but for us regular drivers it doesn't matter, to little difference...so put it in for the sake of our planet!

I'm thinking to order the Akra. But I would remain street legal so I would order the cat too. Not expensive (compared to the pipe).
But I don't understand the drop in type cat. Where to drop in this cat? Is there a place somewhere inside the pipe? Is it visible or hidden?

You know, I'm sure I read somewhere that whilst cats do a certain job, keeping our air cleaner than if they were not in place, they also hinder efficiency of the engine in terms of fuel economy, amongst other things ....so ultimately how green are they if we are potentially burning more fuel?
I'll do some searching as it was many moons ago I happened upon the article.
