Oxford heated grips..!


I haven't had heated grips on any bike before, but seriously considering to get it.

From the info, I've been able to gather, there is mixed feelings about the Oxford ones.
Another model, I have in mind is Datatools, which you can control without moving your hand from the handlebars.
As they use a slider function to adjust the heat, I'm unsure if they'll turn on automatically, should you forget to slide the slider back, when you stop the bike.
 
These are going to be wired into the ignition so won't be a problem if I forgot to switch them off. Tried the datatool ones today and they are nowhere near as hot as the Oxford ones. I also like these over the datatool ones because the grips are loads smaller. The datatool ones felt really chunky and uncomfortable...
 
2013 Adventure spec Oxfords on mine. They auto switch off if you forget to turn them off. Can't fault them for heat or feel. Look at my pics to see them fitted and where I've mounted the switch.

I have the datatool grips fitted my MT and love 'em.
True the grips are chunkier and take getting used to but the extra surface area helps to keep your hands warmer.
Dunno what you mean about them not being hot enough, mine are too hot on the highest setting!

Maybe the ones I tried today may not of been functioning properly spot..! I will get onto the boys later and get them tested. My problem is I hate chunky grips or thick gloves as I like to feel everything going on through the bars and with the datatool ones I wasn't "feeling" them lol.

I've never had any but recently rode an xrz 1200 with the oxford ones on and they're cracking. I'd love some on my MT now but the only thing putting me off is having a wire coming from each grip looks naff and I don't think the control box looks quite right on an MT.

The new oxford range don't need to be wired to the ignition though, theyre autmatic power sensing and turn off when the engine isn't running.
 
I have the oxford heated grips on mine. Cant fault them to be honest. Much better than some cheaper ones inherited on an old bike i owned. Get the newer version with the eco saving mode (thing) which is literally just two wires to the battery. When you turn the ignition off the grips turn themselves off after a minute or two.

You can see them here. I mounted the controller to the brake lever bracket, rather than the clutch because the clutch doesn't have two pinch bolts. Just means you need to bend the bracket that comes with it back the other way.

 
Don't buy heated grips. Get yourself some heated gloves. It's not that much hassle really and your hands will be warm all around, not just your hairy palms :)

I have Gerbing XR12's and they've been brilliant!

Once again invaluable info sir. I have the same ones as u so I'm glad I got these ones now. I haven't ever been bothered with getting cold hands but now I'm getting on (lol)! I'm starting to feel it a bit more.

How long roughly do they take to get warm enuf to feel the benefit from on 100% mate?

I flipped the oxford bracket, enlarged the hole, sprayed it black and used the mirror arm as the fitting point.009.webp


They heat up as fast as the engine does from cold too. This range does seem much better than previous Oxfords I've had.

Just be careful when glueing the throttle grip in place and check the bars lock to lock before you glue. If you mount it so the cable bit points straight down it might catch the tank on full right lock, making you accelerate when you don't want to !!

I have Keis, heated inner gloves much better than grips as they heat the whole hand also have a temperature controller brilliant. they can run of your bike or from a dedicated battery pack not cheap but you get what you pay for regards to all Lou

Exactly! My Gerbings have 4 positions - 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% power. During this winter I've not put them on more than 50% once. Forgot my first pair on the bike one morning (£160 out the window :D) and ordered another one on the same day. They're that good :)

So how do you get these heated inner gloves into your favorite riding gloves ?

I've just got room for fingers that bend never mind an inner heated item. Is it a matter of going out and buying the same glove but three sizes too big.

Lol. Sounds like it. Also don't think I can b bothered going thru the rigmarole of threading the cables thru which ever jacket I decide to wear and sometimes (when it's not raining)! I wear my one piece leathers to work lol.

I must say on their own, the grips are ok / good but coupled with a set of bar muffs they are awesome!

A mate of mine said yesterday he didn't like heated grips as it just highlights how cold you are everywhere else :) kinda see where he's coming from on that one!
