Any Exhaust, Other Than Akrapovic Voids Warranty

hmmmmm, I was talking to the dealer yesterday and apparently, any aftermarket exhaust, other than the Akrapovic will void the warranty. Obviously were not talking about it voiding the warranty for a wheel bearing here, but if something were to go wrong engine wise, they could claim it's not covered. Apparently the Akrapovic is now a Yamaha part, so its covered by the warranty. Sounds a good way to make people buy an expensive exhaust to me !!

The thing to do, would just be to put the standard exhaust back on when taking it for a service. Its pretty tempting to get the Arrow down pipes at £330 and add any 2" end can you want. Got to say though, i rode the bike with the Akra yesterday and it sounds amazing. Video to follow !
 
That's interesting to know. I wonder if it's the same with all dealers or if some would disregard the fact that you have an aftermarket exhaust.
 
hi guys i spoke to my local dealer last week about this as im in the process of buying a arrow exhaust from bio hazzard in america for my bike and my local dealer said its up to the dealers discression for any warrenty problems as he said it is yamaha's way of you buying the more expensive exhaust its aload of old tosh you can fit any after market part on there so i was told just depends on how good your local dealer is.

LOL I was just joking around, I perfectly understand. Here in Florida is actually rare to see a bike with a stock exhaust. It's one of those things that the popo tolerate as ling as it's not too excessive. Then there's other States like California that goes above and beyond with regulations. But again... there's a lot of people per square foot in Cali.

A lot of FZ6R members end up cutting off the outlet in the stocky and welding a bigger one. Done right no one can tell once you put the little cover back on.

To void a warranty claim the fault has to have something to do with the modification i.e. the exhaust. Even if Yamaha refuses a claim it can still be challenged but it can start to get expensive if you need engineer reports etc.

If you get a good quality road legal system from a reputable manufacturer that requires no other mods then it is unlikely to be a problem. It could be an issue if you fit race systems etc especially if not set up correctly.

However I am no expert and could be totally wrong :p
 
as far as i'm aware, all car and bike manufacturers follow this same rule. I know my new Ford states the warrenty is void if i fit non ford parts. Its not suprising really, they spend millions developing a new engine, and dont want people fiddling around with stuff they dont really understand (you just need to look on ebay for people selling ecu & chip upgrades for cars, which claim to improve power & mpg)
 
I tell ya. These Pom's can give though can't get it. Whine get shirty. Relax. It's a jooooke
 
Im guessing its pretty standard stuff these days. Just thought its worth a heads up, incase you want to choose an exhaust for it. Others are much cheaper, but the Akra is approved, so saves taking it on and off etc.
