I'm the least engineering minded person in the world - my ambition exceeds my ability a thousand-fold, but I managed to rig up a DIY saddlebag support this afternoon to support my Givi Saddlebags - paying $180 for Yamaha branded supports left me cold!
The best bit is that I can put it on or remove it in about 5 mins.
I used a piece of aluminium flat bar I had lying around in the garage:
Lengths used:
Main length: 103cm
Brackets: 9cm
Bar Width: 25mm
Bar thickness: 3mm
4 X 6mm bolts
I bent the main length of bar around the tailpiece of the bike below the tail light and anchored it to the passenger peg heel guards with a bracket on the inside on each side using two bolts each side.
Notes:
- Don't fasten the brackets on the passenger peg heelguards too tightly - I have no idea how strong that casting is!
- If you have a tail tidy, this may not work for you.
- If you're carrying a passenger, this may still work for you
Left to do:
- Finish off the aluminium pieces so that they don't damage the finish of the bike.
