Struggling to get gears going up the box but going back down no problems. Had an accident and broke the gear lever and adjuster replaced and now this is happening could it be the selectee shaft damaged ?

could be. is the footrest bent? mine was and made upshifts really hard to get right. there is some slop where the footrest goes into the hanger.

Yes, a bent selector shaft could be the cause.

footrest did get bent yes but bought new hanger ​

Worth a look. Mine was droopy from new. You can adjust the angle of the footrest in the hanger slightly. The end of the footrest is a D and can be moved a bit.
