Inserting baffle in Akra

Hi guys,

I heard something about there is two baffles with the Akra.

Have any other heard of this?
Wonder because we can get it the last 5 mm, and can see this inside the 'zost:ImageUploadedByTapatalk1401106284.522433.webp
Is this the other baffle, and do we need to get that out before inserting the bigger baffle?
 
those 3 tubes in your photo are the bitch part of fitting the insert. what happens is the gasses hit the 3 tubes of the db killer and are forced back into a 2nd chamber, (the gear change side) then they do a u turn and come out through the db killer. its quite clever as it mutes the bass noise and forces the rest through a chamber that would be twice as long if it was a straight silencer.
the killer jams up when the 3 tubes try to go into the ones in the can. if you cut the 3 tubes off then the outlet part with the fixing nut on it fits easy.

and when the kiler is out its just a straight through.......
 
I've had my whole exhaust off the bike about 5 times now and still the baffle refuses to go in and out without a block of wood and rubber mallet.

I've been blacking up the baffle with marker pen and taking emery paper to anywhere its fouling on the way in but its still refusing to fit.

Theres a weld seem around the inside diameter of the actual exhaust just past the boss with the thread in it that is too big so I'm now going to have to take my dremel to the inside of my nice expensive exhaust and smooth that seem off.

Not overly happy to be honest but thats the only way baffle will go in and out without the use of hand tools. Filing away at the baffle is one thing but having to start hacking away at the exhaust is a whole other level IMO which I shouldn't have to do on such an expensive piece of kit which is a proper Yamaha upgrade.

BTW, mines not jamming up on the three tubes, covered it all in marker pen and after knocking it in and out with a rubber mallet there were no fouling marks around the 3 tubes, mine is stiff due to a large weld seem as mentioned above.

Also while on the subject the pic below is from the Yamaha website but my screw is not in the same place, mine is around the other side making it a right pain to get to while on the bike, whats up with that, where's it supposed to be?

I think that was the earlier 3 piece exhaust, no idea why they moved the baffle screw to a more inconvenient place
 
yup, my screw is right at the back n id have to reach under the chain from the left to get at it. i was dremmelling the hell out of the first flange (with the screw in) thinking that was the fouling point but soon as i lopped the tubes off it fell in there! its the tubes going into the 3 holes in the can that caused my issues.

I will double check by blacking it back up but seems mines fouling on that dam weld seem.

ive lopped mine off so later on ill try the cut bit in the hole-that should show me exactly where mine was sticking. i hadnt thought of that before cos the end bit fitted ok after the lopping ceremony :)

Cool, I'm still in two minds about whether to chop mine or not. It's too loud with it out but don't have a spare so once its cut its ruined. I suppose it could always be welded back on but unless it's lined up exactly right I'll have fitment issues again.

id give you a sound clip of mine once its fitted but a 3 min clip take 3000, yup thousand, minutes to upload over there. if anyone knows how to upload clips faster please let me in on the secret....

Sound clips online never sound the same as in real life anyway. Even the sound clips on the Akrapovic site don't sound right.

For me its too loud when its not being revved, low down in the revs is a really deep resonating sound, once revved up it sounds ok.

Can i suggest you insert it / wedge it in backwards, the external slash cut pipes aren't as long as the internal ones so that would let you know how it will sound. I think……?

the bass noise? thats the bit i dont like either, the deep BOOM bit.

I have actually done that :-) I'm pretty sure it was still fouling in the same place. I'll take it off the bike again tomorrow and take it in to work and get it sorted once and for all.
