Sloppy Oil Pump Drive Chain

Had clutch casing off to repair crack around water pump mounting and found the oil and water pump drive chain to be disturbingly sloppy. There is no adjustment and I cannot believe this amount of slack is safe or acceptable. The water pump was also damaged in the crash but not siezed to stretch the chain. Before I buy new chain to see if that helps has anyone any comments or suggestions please?

Is there any possibility the pump is not quite in the same place any movement in the pump
makes twice the difference in the chain, could the pump have got jammed in the crash
the released putting the chain under pressure.

You are right Ralph, but it did look OK. I will unfasten the oil pump and reseat it to check though. Thanks
