I like it apart from the snatchy throttle and being treated like s**t by Yamaha UK and my dealer (more info here and here). After test riding several other bikes (namely S1000RR, ZX-6R 636 and GSX-R750) I realised how much that throttle is annoying me while commuting in London traffic. A few weeks ago it was getting to the point when my arm was getting tired from trying to modulate the throttle. The bike is jerking on every smallest bump even if I hold the throttle in one position and the noise that Lamba introduced obviously isn't going anywhere. I can't be bothered to fix things that should've been there to start with so decided to ditch it and get something that allows me to just ride it, without any distractions.
I wanted to love the bike but all these issues is one of the reasons I wasn't even considering getting another Yamaha, because that would have meant that I'd have to deal with the same rubbish dealers again. A bit sad to lose MT-09 but can't wait to jump on the Gixxer on Saturday (getting the Z version btw)

Gixxer? Really? You are that kind of person. Well, MT-09 seems to be like Alfa Romeo, you either love it with all its faults or hate it.
(I can't find any faults though, every new model, car or bike or any other device has its problems solved in next iteration)

The K5/6 1000 was a classic of a bike, I still rate as one of the best sports bikes I've ever ridden.

I thought they were boring too and, to be honest, I wanted to like Kawasaki and I only test rode the gixxer because the dealership was close. Didn't even expect to like it. How wrong I was... It might not look amazing but damn it's a good bike!It's up to those people then. I certainly know my limits and capabilities. Even if I had the S1000RR, I'd still ride within my limits and wouldn't care a bit that I have more horsepower than I'll ever need

Getting this thread back on track, just hit 10,000 miles today. Bike still looking good, still on original brake pads and chain/sprockets, all fasteners good. Exhaust starting to tarnish at headers, but apart from that everything good

24000KM so around 15000 miles in 18mths.
I use it every day for 120km round trip to work and back, come rain or shine.
Holding up very well still on OEM pads, chain and sprockets but on new tires.
There is no grit or rock salt on the roads here, so nothing had corroded so far.

mine will hit 10k miles this weekend, 8 months old and looks like a 10 year old bike, rusty seat staples (seat replaced), rusty mirror (claim going in), rusty oil cooler cover (replaced), it's a rust bucket but then I do ride all year in all weather and don't wash it very often but I do change the oil/filter every 3k miles

Mine is now 20 months old and has been ridden through 2 winters. No rust, not even much tarnish on the exposed nuts and bolts, build quality as good as anything else I have ever owned (ie all big bike brands)
forgot... rear wheel bearing went at about 8,500 miles, fixed it myself with aftermarket bearings
Sounds like u have a bit of a nightmare bike there bud....!
