Went out to buy a Triumph Tiger XC .
Just happened to stop off at a Yamaha dealers in Chorley.
Saw the MT-09 and kicked the Triumph into touch.
Hope I won't live to regret it.
Small tank - uncomfortable seat - problems with cam chain tensioner and headlight wiring.
Crap ECU mapping - will somebody reasure me I haven't made a mistake?
If I had found this forum not sure i would have splashed the cash.

You know MX have small tanks & hard seats but they are fun bikes.. the same with -09...
About the rest.... everything is under warranty and all of us who had the bike we had fixed any issues.. or we used to live with them.
For me is the best (no passenger) bike i ever had.
I'm sure you don't regret your buy at all.
 
Triumphs have lots of probs mate and all the teething probs are just niggles rather than anything major ,and as othets said most probs are sorted now, the mt to me gets better the more you ride it , it can hold its on with sportsbikes but is great as a comnuter or holigan stunter , also servicing is cheaper than triumph .

I am picking mine up tomorrow and like you sidestreetkick I am worried about a lot of the negativity I have been seeing on here.
I will have to make my own mind up after tomorrow but feeling nervous....
 
Dont be worried guys newley released bikes have niggles and to be fair the mt 09 ones arent bad , i mean look at the bmw sham with the suspension.
 
Hi and welcome, I'm sure you wont regret it, its a great all round bike.
The more you use it the better it gets. The suspension settles down, and the throttle is no better or worse than any other bike that is euro 3 compliant.
My CCT quietened down by itself at the 5000 mile mark, but it was no more rattly than most Hondas I have owned.
The finish is the same as everything else out there to, bought mine October last year, it has already seen one winter and nothing has tarnished
 
Picked mine up yesterday and done about 120 miles since then.
It is snatchy but I guess I could have probably lived with it but as there is a remedy have booked it in to be re-flashed next week then it's done with.
However I must admit I do like the bike and even more so than my R6...

How are you going on with your bike after your initial concerns?
I've had mine for just over a fortnight and coming up to 900 miles.
Had the ecu flash done just over a week ago then first service this week.
Have to say the more I ride it the more I'm enjoying it and certainly after having the flash done its a proper bike now!
Glad I traded in my R6 and I know it's going to be a good buy!

CCT isn't always an issue; headlight wiring is a batch of bikes, not all.

ECU mapping is ok. I didn't like the stock seat but some do.

Nothing wrong with the tank size... if you want mega mileage then yes you bought the wrong bike. This isn't a lardy old tourer.

You forgot to mention the shite stock suspension.

Plenty of Triumphs have problems - CCTs, reg/rec, broken cranks, seizing suspension linkages, leaking head gaskets, crap ECU mapping, deformed fuel tanks, rusty fasteners, self destructing gearboxes. I know which I'd rather have as Yamaha actually acknowledge faults and fix them.

You definitely won't regret it most fun bike I have owned in years. ..and I have had some
welcome and enjoy mate
 
Well 2 weeks into ownership.
I've had gales, fallen trees, flash flooding, ice, thunderstorms and beautiful sunshine. Even just missed a head on with two dickheads on GS's so keen to overtake a van they didn't see me coming the other way. Dodged pheasants and commuters. 560 miles around Lancashire & Cumbria.
Im in LOVE!!
A brilliant bike. Averaged 57.6mpg commuting over 32 miles per day and 46mpg over the hills last weekend.
My must have extras
1 Hepco bekker main stand
2. Givi brush guards
3 Krauser c bow or givi soft bag set
4 fender extender and rad guard.

Can't wait till she's run in only taking up to 6000rpm at the moment.
First service next weekend. I'll be about 200 miles over mileage.
