Don't worry about it mate. Mine was rattling like a belt fed gimpy when it was at 900miles. Had it replaced with the 3rd modification and it's been fine since.

Mines now done 4500 miles, been rattling last 3500 miles, not a bad rattle, mainly noticable 3-4000 rpm. Been back to dealer countless times, the mechanic reckons it sound fine, and written to Yamaha, they said nothing they could do if dealer reckons its OK.
As far as I'm concerned, I have tried to get it sorted, and if it does go pop I have proof I told them about it countless times.
To be fair, hasnt got any louder last 3500 miles, just annoying.
Will be interesting to see if any debris in oil at service time

Cant you just drive to another Yama dealer?

I suppose I could, but it would be a 100 miles round trip, and if the dealer said the same thing it would be a waste of time.
I will get the dealer to check the oil at the next service (6000 miles in next couple of months)
Usually if things go wrong, even out of warranty, I would expect Yamaha to still fix it (I have emails from Yamaha UK and also my dealer logs each visit I make and gives me a paper copy), so if 3 years down the line the cam chain snaps and destroys the engine, I would have proof it was a long term issue

Does anyone know after which engine number they came with the updated tensioner as standard?
Or are there any identifying marks on the updated tensioners so I could identify if mine is done?
Finally, what exactly is changed - is it just a bolt or are there internal parts as well ?

Mine just started after 2k so booked in and asked for the latest CCT which is apparently 3rd generation

I know it's a LONG thread but if u read from the start u will find all the answers u need

Just had mine replaced and the rattle is even worse than before. Before I left I asked the mechanic if any adjustment is needed and he is that is it self adjustable ! So he has not tried my bike even bloody dealers ! Should I go back and complain or adjust it myself?
