rusting steering head

Hi all, new to the wonderful world of the mt09. I noticed under the rubber cap in the steering stem it has started to rust. I assume it's from the cap not letting the water drain properly. Has anyone else had this problem?

How old is your bike? WA's had the lowest rainfall in the last 3 years this year too!
